At the January 11, 2005 meeting of the Board of Directors of the Franklin County Water District, the Board approved funding for and entered into an agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to create an aquatic vegetation nursery facility that will be owned and operated by the District.

This facility will allow the District to grow plants for introduction into Lake Cypress Springs.  It  will also be a more cost effective and efficient way for the District to obtain plants for introduction.A total of 1480 propagules were introduced at the new facility, 1150 plants were what was in the agreement with the Corps.  The District received 108 water willow, 126 softstem bulrush, 70 white water lily, 115 squarestem spikerush, 100+ bulltongue, 126 flatstem spikerush, 238 wild celery, 240 Illinois pondweed, and 216 water stargrass.

The District plans to continue with transplanting of existing plants and maintaining all the planting sites.  We are committed to the ongoing eco-system restoration program and the continued improvement to the water quality and aquatic ecosystem.
